BLR Airport Launches DigiYatra App Beta
Bengaluru Kempegowda International Airport (BLR Airport) in India has launched a beta version of the DigiYatra contactless boarding app.
The DigiYatra app creates contactless and paperless airport passenger processing, based on the use of single-token facial biometrics for passenger verification. Passengers can pass check-in and security and board their respective flights using their unique biometric token to validate their identity and boarding pass.

BLR Airport began rolling out the DigiYatra Core Ecosystem (DYCE) on August 15, 2022. The DigiYatra biometric electronic gate boarding system is now operational at the airport and is being rolled out at scale for all domestic airlines in a phased manner, covering checkpoints for domestic travel. Vistara Airlines and AirAsia are the two airlines currently integrated into DigiYatra; passengers can register remotely on the DigiYatra app from home. The app is currently available on Google Play Store for Android users and an iOS version will be available in a month.
The DYCE is built on standards defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) which include Autonomous Sovereign Identity (SSI) with Verifiable Credentials (VC), Decentralized Identifiers (DID) with a Trust Layer of a distributed registry and ensuring the adoption of Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default as fundamental principles. This is to ensure that all privacy issues are taken care of and passenger data is secure and will be deleted 24 hours after the passenger travels.
DYCE is the initiative of the Digi Yatra Foundation (DYF), which was established as a joint venture in 2019, with BIAL one of the main shareholders. The DigiYatra Foundation will be a pan-Indian entity and the guardian of the passenger identity validation process.
Hari Marar, Managing Director and CEO of BIAL, said: “At BIAL, we are constantly striving to offer innovative ways to simplify the passenger journey and make it as seamless as possible. The implementation of the Digi Yatra Core Ecosystem is one more step towards achieving this goal. We are happy to be part of the first phase of deployment and appreciate the trust placed in us by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, DGCA [Directorate General of Civil Aviation] and the Government of India. As the new gateway to India, BLR Airport is keen to be at the forefront of change and innovation.
