The Community Corrections Division of Orange County Corrections is hosting a Community Resource Fair on Thursday, June 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the south parking lot of the Orange County Jail.
We will host a variety of vendors, suppliers and employers to facilitate awareness of resources and opportunities available to meet the needs of citizens of Orange County and surrounding areas. In particular, the fair will target resources available for recently released inmates, offenders under community supervision and the homeless. Because 96 percent of Orange County inmates return to the community, the Orange County Corrections Department’s goal is always to return them to the community in better shape than when they arrived in jail. This fair will provide resources to help them succeed as law-abiding citizens.
If you are a supplier or employer and would like to participate or would like more information, please contact Hope Simpson at 407-836-3044 or by email at [email protected]
We will have over 40 community resources, vendors and non-profit organizations on hand for the Community Resource Fair. Some of them include National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Urban League, United Against Poverty, Florida Restoration Rights Coalition, Valencia College, Salvation Army, Victim Service Center, Army Recruiting Office, Career Source Central Florida, First Step Staffing, Orlando Technical College, Healthy Start Coalition, Operation New Hope and many more!
The idea is to help people in difficulty or who need a little help, and to provide them with assistance for a more stable environment including employment, educational resources and affordable housing.
Linda Brooks, Manager of Community Corrections and Inmate Programs, says, “People who have come into contact with the law often just need the tools to put them on the path to moving forward in a positive direction and c is the whole point of this fair bringing all the resources together in one centralized location and made available to the community.” For many struggling people, transportation is often an issue, so having the resources in one place.
