Effingham, Illinois- (Radio Effingham) – November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and show support for the more than 6.2 million Americans who suffer from it.
Effingham Area Alzheimer’s Awareness and Effingham Public Library have collaborated to provide a collection of books, DVDs and keepsake kits that can help caregivers learn more about their loved one’s diagnosis and the importance of taking care of them. themselves.
“One hidden gem that I would highly recommend people to check out is the keepsake kits.” Johnna Schultz, deputy director, shared. âThese themed kits which contain everyday items help caregivers connect with loved ones using touch or smell. “
The Forget Me Not Resource Center materials were donated by Effingham Area Alzheimer’s Awareness and are available to everyone. A library card is not required to borrow items from this collection.
âWe have always lived outside the confines of the library. So we knew we had to pay for a card to be able to consult the books in the library. When we approached the Effingham Public Library to host this collection, we knew this collection needed to be as accessible as possible, so we worked with them to find a solution – and we are so grateful that we did! Shannon Nosbisch, co-founder of Effingham Area Alzheimer’s Awareness, and resident of Dieterich explained. âThis solution helped us put Forget Me Not Resource Centers in 7 other libraries in our region!
The Forget Me Not Resource Center at Effingham Public Library is located on the second floor in the adult non-fiction section. The materials in this collection can be viewed for two weeks. The library is open Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
