PlanetWatch chooses city of Miami to deploy air quality monitoring network
MIAMI, November 29, 2021 / PRNewswire / – PlanetWatch, the world’s first decentralized indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring network built on the Algorand blockchain, has selected the city of Miami to deploy a network of its sensors throughout the city. This deployment will mark the first deployment at a major site in the United States and follows the successful integration of PlanetWatch technology in several European cities. The project will build on the commitments made within the framework of that of Miami Miami Forever Climate Ready Initiative.
This announcement follows global commitments to improve environmental policy following COP26, before which the World Health Organization updated its global air quality guidelines. Cities have a growing need to control their air quality, especially following recent evidence that more than 40% of Americans live in places with unhealthy levels of ozone or particulate pollution.1
âPlanetWatchersâ will host the air quality sensors to collect green data which will be transcribed on the Algorand blockchain. The contributors will then receive PLANETS tokens in compensation. The information will be used to detect pollution hot spots and provide a database of environmental scans to protect human health. that of Miami residents.
Mayor Suarez, commented: “We are delighted that PlanetWatch has selected Miami as the first American city in which they will deploy a network of air quality sensors. Miami strives to become a green city through policies such as the “Miami Forever Climate Ready” initiative, and it is extremely exciting that innovators like PlanetWatch and Algorand are coming here to implement major sustainable technology in the United States . Algorand is a carbon-negative blockchain, and the data from this project will play a crucial role in our climate adaptation efforts as well as our ambitions to Miami an epicenter for digital capital markets. “
Claudio Parrinello, CEO of PlanetWatch, commented: “We are very pleased to announce the deployment of PlanetWatch technology in Miami, which is our first large-scale project in the United States. Miami is a thriving hub of innovation and we’re excited to partner with the city as we move forward on our vision to establish a low-impact, cost-effective global environmental monitoring network.
âPlanetWatch is based on the contribution of individuals and the population of Miami will play an invaluable role in expanding an air quality database that will help protect the health of our people and our planet. ”
